El Chapil

At El Chapil you will experience Mexico as we live it, and as we love it- in the farm fields, with the sound of the waves as your soundtrack. This is our home, and we invite you to make it yours. El Chapil is not a homogenous resort experience with a wall designed to keep Mexico out. Modern Mexico is a dynamic and exciting place and we embrace and embody the contrasts of old and new- respecting the heritage of the place while creating a space that is uniquely ours.

We offer many services such as private dinners, cocktails, massages, facials, yoga, and dance classes. Our schedule of events is always changing so please reach out if you have any questions about what we have scheduled for the dates of your stay.

Our space is ideal for large groups, couples, or individuals looking to relax, spend time on the beach and eat good food. We are home to a fully functioning farm with Mango trees, papaya, bananas, a full veggie garden and many local varieties of Baja flora. From the rooftop of our two story hotelito you can experience the stunning grandeur of a Baja sunset, wake up each morning to a full service breakfast and adventure out to surf on Pedrito and Cerritos beach. Other adventures include fishing with our good friend Israel on the Sea of Cortez, or exploring the Sierra Laguna like a local. On top of that the beautiful town of Todos Santos is just up the highway.

Our Bios

Daphne came to Baja Sur via Mexico City and Oaxaca, with stops at private chef gigs in places like Aspen and France and cooking for yoga retreats in Tulum and Peru, and a brief stint as the owner of a ceviche dealing, wildly popular food truck that flamed out in a spectacular fashion. Peter is a filmmaker and photographer from Oregon with National Geographic, NY Times and Time Magazine and others in his client roster. El Chapil is a child of multicultural creatives with sharp design eyes and good palates. We recognize that we are not for everyone; we are part of a community here, and we invite you to join us.

About the area

El Chapil is located in Pescadero just up from the 3-mile white sand beach Playa San Pedrito, one of the best surf breaks in Baja California. It has an excellent location only 10 minutes to the magical town of Todos Santos. Here in Pescadero the climate is heavily influenced by the Pacific Ocean, which moderates the temperatures year round. We are bordered by Todos Santos to the north, the Sierra de la Laguna mountains to the East, the beautiful Pacific ocean to the west, and playa Los Cerritos to the south. We live in the huerta area of Pescadero (the farm land area), with mango tree-lined roads, basil fields, and low-density private residences scattered throughout.

We are 6-miles south of the Village of Todos Santos which was initially founded as a Mission in 1733.  Later, it became a major sugar-cane producer. Todos Santos has long-been special.  The Church, Theater, Cultural Center & Museum and so many historic buildings are often open to the public, especially during the Historic Homes Tour.  Organizations hold seminars and workshops here. The next Music Festival is going to be HUGE.  A popular Art Festival  is held annually. There is a wide array of quiet Guest Rentals to choose from and longer-term Vacation Homes for rent.  There are many Homes and Lots on which to find your special place.  Todos is a destination for visiting Whales which can be seen from the beach.  There are many popular restaurants serving Creative Cuisine with organic produce. Local fishermen provide us fresh seafood daily. The ecology of this oasis, and the magnificent Sierra Laguna mountains, are the subject of many paintings, photographs, and memories.

There are many things to do and see in our area, and here at Chapil we would be happy to coordinate adventures for you, recommend places to eat, and help in any way we can.

There are many comfortable common areas with shade, and a beautiful garden palapa as well for yoga classes or any other type of gathering. The palapa is comfortable throughout the day and surrounded by guava trees, our veggie graden, and lush banana plants.

One of the best parts about hosting your retreat with us is honestly the food. Daphne, our chef, does an incredible job preparing farm fresh meals that are all locally sourced and based around ingredients ripe at your time of stay. We also have access to some of the best seafood in the world, which makes the cuisine here truly memorable. FAQ’s

What’s the best way to get there from the airport?

We highly recommend you rent a car. Todos Santos is 6 miles north and full of galleries and delicious restaurants – definitely worth a visit. There are gorgeous beaches all around. The new highway between Cabo and the Ranch is now 4 lanes.  The highway is finished and fantastic.  It now takes about an hour to drive from the airport to Chapil.

Is breakfast included?

No, but we do offer a wonderful breakfast service by reservation.

How long does it take to walk to beach?

10 minutes. 3 minutes by bike.

Where is the surf?

We are just a 5 minute drive to the San Pedrito point break. Are you a first timer, or getting back in the groove? Cerritos is one bay south – about a 10 minute drive and is a sandy bottom beach break. We can arrange lessons with everything you need to get started, down to the wetsuits for February, March and April.

What about the whales?

They are awesome, and we see them almost daily from early December into March. They breach and leap and swim on by. They are huge and gorgeous and you can hardly believe they are really there. We can’t guarantee you will see them, but we do suggest that spending time gazing at the horizon is a perfect way of passing time here, and you most likely will end up with whale sightings as a bonus.  We can arrange a panga for whale watching on a calm day.

Do you have bikes I can use?

Yes, we have 2 cruiser bikes.

Can I use the kitchen?

If you rent the whole place you have full use of the kitchen, if you rent an individual room the kitchen access is limited.

Can we book a private dinner?

Absolutely. Minimum of four people is required and it is by reservation only- Daphne is an amazing chef who can plan an entire menu using the best of our fresh local ingredients. Average dinner price is usually around $25 per person depending on the menu.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, we love dogs. We do have one dog and a cat on property so your well-behaved and socialized dog is welcome. Please contact us ahead of your visit to discuss so we can interview your dog.

Are you non-smoking?

The rooms and terraces are non-smoking, we have an outdoor smoking area.

What else should we know about visiting El Chapil?

We like to strike a good balance of homey, comfortable and respectful. We are family style.

Are you gay friendly?
